Study Timer: focus that actually works

The same method thousands of students use to stop procrastinating, built with tools made for real study sessions.

Why the Pomodoro method fits studying so well

Studying is deceptive because fatigue often doesn't announce itself — you can spend half an hour 'reading' a chapter and retain almost nothing without noticing until later. Splitting study time into short blocks with mandatory breaks interrupts that autopilot before it sets in, turning an open-ended study marathon into a series of short sprints with clear, measurable goals.

Setting up a study session here

This page loads the timer with the classic 25-minute study / 5-minute break ratio — a solid starting point if you're reviewing several subjects in one sitting. Add the topics or chapters you're covering to the session plan, turn on an animated background to help hold your visual focus, and let one of the built-in ambient sound tracks run while you work.

If your study sessions run longer

For dense material, exam prep, or heavy reading loads, many students prefer 50-minute sessions with a 10-minute break — that variant is one click away as our 25/5 preset's longer sibling. And if part of your studying involves typing lecture notes or timed exams faster, our typing practice shares the same streak and stats as this timer.

Why this Pomodoro is different

  • 📚 A session plan built around subjects and chapters, not generic, unlabeled "tasks"
  • 🎧 Built-in ambient sound for anyone who focuses better with soft background noise while reading
  • 🎨 An animated background that helps hold your visual focus through long review sessions
  • ⌨️ If you also practice typing to take notes faster, both share the same streak
  • 🆓 No sign-up needed to start studying right now — an account only syncs your history later

Frequently asked questions

What duration is best for studying?

25 minutes of study with a 5-minute break is usually the safest starting point — short enough to sustain even on a low-focus day. If you find you concentrate better in longer stretches, try a 50-minute session instead.

Can I use it for group study?

Yes, though the timer runs per device — each person in your study group can open this page on their own computer or phone and mentally sync the same focus and break blocks.

Is it useful for exam prep, not just reading textbooks?

Yes. The session plan lets you log practice problems or mock exams as tasks too, not just reading topics, and track how many pomodoros you spend on each.

Does ambient sound help or distract while studying?

It depends on the person — some students focus better with soft background sound (rain, waves) and others prefer silence. That's why the ambient sound is optional and can be muted at any time without interrupting the rest of the session.

Do I need an account to keep my study history?

Not to start using it, but if you want your session history and streak to follow you between your phone and computer, a free account syncs that automatically.
