Connected to your practice and Pomodoro

Your typing blocks mark themselves as done and feed your Pomodoro session.

What is time blocking and why does it work?

Time blocking is a time management technique that consists of dividing your day into blocks dedicated to a single task or category, instead of working from an open-ended to-do list that constantly competes for your attention. Instead of asking yourself "what should I do now?", your calendar already decided for you: 9:00 to 11:00 is deep work, 11:30 to 12:00 is email and admin, 17:00 to 17:30 is typing practice. It works for a very simple reason: it reduces the number of decisions your brain has to make throughout the day. Every time you decide "what to do now" you spend mental energy — time blocking moves that decision to planning time, not execution time. On top of that, assigning a real time limit to each activity reduces procrastination (a task with a start and end time leaves less room to postpone it) and makes conflicts visible before they happen: if you try to fit more work than your hours allow, you see it at a glance on the grid, not at the end of the day when it's too late.

How to combine it with Pomodoro, and 3 common mistakes

Combined with the Pomodoro technique, time blocking works even better: long blocks (like "deep work", 2 hours) turn into 3-4 Pomodoro sessions of 25 minutes with short breaks in between, avoiding the mental fatigue of staying focused without pauses. The planner automatically calculates how many Pomodoros fit in each block. Three common mistakes when starting out: 1) Planning every minute of your day from day one — start with 3 or 4 well-defined blocks; a full grid you abandon within a week is useless. 2) Not leaving gaps between blocks — any unexpected delay pushes the whole chain back if blocks are packed with no margin; leave 10-15 minutes of buffer between important ones. 3) Being too optimistic about duration — if a task always takes twice as long as planned, adjust your block durations to match your real track record, not what you'd like it to be.

Frequently asked questions

What is time blocking?

Time blocking is a time management method where you divide your day into blocks dedicated to a single task or category, instead of working from an open to-do list. Every hour of the day has a purpose assigned in advance.

Is MecanografíaPro's time blocking planner free?

Yes, the weekly planner is 100% free, with no block limit and no card required. All data is saved locally in your browser, and you can even export it to your Google Calendar.

How do I combine time blocking with the Pomodoro technique?

Every block you create shows how many 25-minute Pomodoros fit within its duration, plus a button to open Pomodoro directly. That way you split long deep-work blocks into focused sessions with breaks.

Can I export my week to Google Calendar or Outlook?

Yes. The planner generates a standard .ics file compatible with Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar, including the blocks you repeat every week.

What happens if two blocks overlap?

The planner automatically detects overlaps and places conflicting blocks side by side, with a red dashed border and a warning icon, just like a professional calendar.
